Trumped-up coverage?
Nicholas Kristoff takes some well-aimed shots at news media coverage of Trump the candidate.
Most focused is Kristoff’s critique of the continuing decline – begun many election cycles ago – of issues coverage by the major television networks. He is less clear in distinguishing TV coverage from print coverage, which was much better on the whole. He also doesn’t make clear enough the distinction between covering Trump and covering his followers. Both left something to be desired, but the criticism of news media for condescending to or ignoring blue-collar Middle America is better directed at columnists and the punditocracy than at news coverage itself.
